Tallest sculpture
of Lord Anjaneya Hanuman Swamy is located on Simhachalam Ghat Road in Visakhapatnam
city suburb of Simhachalam in the Indian state of Andhra Pradseh.
Simhachalam Temple
is dedicated to Lord Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy, the lion-man
incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is the presiding deity of the temple. The
image is covered with sandal paste. It is only once a year, during the Chandana Visarjana that
the sandal paste is removed, and the image is seen by pilgrims.
Legend has
it that the Ugra form of Narasimha as he killed the demon Hiranyakashipu was so fierce that
the image is kept covered by sandal paste throughout the year.
This temple
combines the Orissian and Chalukyan features of temple construction, and it
attracts scores of pilgrims from both Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
