Posture long idol of Lord Hanuman at Bade Hanuman Ji Temple is located at
Allahabad city (also known as Teerthraj Prayag) belongs to Allahabad district
in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Temple deity
Lord Hanuman idol is Sleeping Posture (Lete Hue) and located about ten steps
below ground level.
As per mythology,
when Lord Ram after conquering Lanka and defeating Ravan came here to worship
at Sangam, Hanuman Ji experienced severe body ache and laid at Sangam.
Finishing his prayers, when Lord Ram asked Hanuman Ji to proceed further,
Hanuman Ji denied proceeding due to severe pain. Sita Maa then blessed
Hanuman ji and all the pains were flown away from his body by the sacred water
in the Triveni Sangam.
The city's
original name Prayag or
"place of offerings" comes from its position at the Sangam (confluence)
of the Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Sarasvati rivers. It
is the second oldest city in India and plays a central role in Hindu
scriptures.
