Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Biggest statue of Lord Panchamukha Anjaneya is located at Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami Temple; Piduguralla town belongs to Guntur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
It is located at a distance of 68 kms from the district head quarter Guntur on Hyderbad-Guntur State Highway No-2. The south central railway line from Guntur to Hyderabad (via) Nadikudi passes through this town.
Piduguralla is also known as “Lime City of Andhra Pradesh” as lime stone of rich quality is abundantly available in the surrounding area.
The origin of Shri Panchamukhi Hanuman can be traced to the story in Ramayan. During Ram-Ravan war in Lanka, Ravan took help of Ahiravan, the King of Patal Lok. Hanuman in order to protect Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman formed a fortress with his tail. Ahiravan took the form of Vibhishan-the noble brother of Ravan and took sleeping Bhagwan Shri Ram & Lakshman to Patal Lok (nether world).
Hanuman entered Patal-Puri in search of Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman. He found that life of Ahiravan was hidden in the five lamps which were kept in different directions.
Ahiravan could be killed only by extinguishing five lamps kept in different directions all at the same time (simultaneously). To accomplish this task Lord Hanuman took the form of Panch-Mukha Hanuman with faces of Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha are the four other faces along with own's face.
God Hanuman using the five faces in different directions blows air to extinguish the lamps there by killing Ahiravan and rescued Bhagwan Shri Ram & Lakshman.
After Ahiravan was vanquished, God Shri Ram asked Hanuman to crown Makardhwaj as a King of Patal-Puri [Shree Makardhwaj was son of Lord Hanuman who looks like half Makara (crocodile) and half Vanara (monkey)].
