80 feet
height sky-high gigantic sculpture of Rambhakt Hanuman is situated at Ram
Tirath Temple; Amritsar city comes under Amritsar district in the Indian state
of Punjab. The temple is located 11 kms west of Amritsar on Amritsar-Lopoke Road.
This holy
shrine has an interesting past. The place gets a special mention in the India’s
Greatest Hindu Epic “Ramayan”. This place was once the ashram of Maharishi
Valmiki. The saint is believed to have scripted many of his sacred manuscripts
at this place. As per the mythological beliefs Devi Sita got shelter in
Maharishi Valmiki’s hermitage after Lord Ram deserted her. After Mata
Sita gave birth to Luv and Kush at this ashram, Rishi Valmiki
trained and made them proficient in the realms of religious and social life
besides intricacies of warfare. At site of the temple there is a hut where Mata
Sita gave birth to twin sons Luv & Kush. There is a large sacred tank (or
well with stairs) used by Goddess Sita to take her bath that is said to have
been dug by Hanuman himself.
A big fair
is held here about a fortnight after Diwali and for duration of five
days. This place has great religious significance and attracts huge
number of devotees.
